About Bozeman
ust 25 minutes west of Livingston is the city of Bozeman. It is centered in the beautiful Gallatin Valley. Today, it is one of Montana’s major tourist and agricultural centers.
The city was established after in 1864 John Bozeman led a wagon train over what would become the Bozeman Pass into the Gallatin Valley. Bozeman did not begin as other western boomtowns. Many of Bozeman’s early settlers were ex-miners of that era looking to settle down as farmers and merchants. For the next 100 years, Bozeman was an important and historic gateway to the West. From the city’s beginning, downtown merchants have outfitted explorers, miners, ranchers and the army.
Today, Bozeman is one of the most unique and diverse small towns in the Rocky Mountains. Not only is it home to ranchers and small businessmen alike, Bozeman is also home to Montana State University, which was founded in 1893. The downtown features turn-of-the-century buildings, with more than 100 shops and restaurants lining this beautiful and historic retailing corridor.
Bozeman is a wonderful addition to your Montana vacation.
